Daily Holes

Questions and answers

The things players ask most often. For the full rules see how to play, and for detail on any part of the game, the guides.

What is Daily Holes?

A free daily golf game. Every day a new nine-hole course is generated from the date, and everyone in the world plays the same nine holes, with the same wind and the same hazards in the same places. Every shot is one tap on a timing meter.

When does the new course come out?

At midnight in your own time zone. Whoever you are and wherever you play, the course for a given date is identical.

Is it free?

Yes. Today's nine and the Wild Three are free every day, in the browser and in the iPhone app, with no account needed to start. Replays and the Club membership are optional extras and never change the physics or the daily leaderboard.

Do I need an account?

No. You can play straight away as a guest. A free account (Apple, Google or email) puts your name on the leaderboard, keeps your streak and history safe across devices, and unlocks friends, matches, leagues and quest rewards.

How many goes do I get?

One ranked card a day for the nine, and one for the Wild Three. You can leave a round and pick it up where you stopped. Once your card is in, today's course is free to practise as many times as you like — practice never counts.

How does putting work?

There is no putt to time. Where your ball finishes on the green decides it: inside the gold ring is one putt, inside the pale ring two, anywhere else on the green three. The rings shrink on steeply sloping greens.

How is my score worked out?

Your score is your total strokes over the nine holes, shown against the course par. Each course has its own par, usually between 35 and 38, because the mix of par 3s, 4s and 5s changes daily — and now and then a par 6 or 7 turns up.

What is a pure strike?

Stopping the swing meter in the top sliver of the bar, from 94.5% to exactly full. A pure strike flies up to 8% further and much straighter than an ordinary one. Going past full is an overswing, which curves the ball.

Does the wind matter?

Yes. A headwind or tailwind changes your carry by about 0.4% per mile an hour, and a crosswind pushes the ball sideways by about 0.3% of the carry per mile an hour. Each hole shows its wind as an arrow and a speed.

What are the different course types?

Each day is one of four: Pine Forest, Coastal Beach, Highland Peaks or Volcanic Island, chosen from the date. From 21 to 31 October every day is the Spooky Forest. Each type has its own scenery and a few hazards of its own.

What is the Wild Three?

A short set of three holes at the same venue as the daily nine, where the limits that keep a nine calm come off. It takes a couple of minutes, you get one ranked go a day, and it has its own leaderboard.

Are the leaderboard scores real?

Every card is replayed shot by shot on the server before it counts. The replay has to produce exactly the score being claimed, so a score can only come from a round that was actually played.

How do streaks work?

Your streak is the number of days in a row you have finished the daily nine. Miss a day and it starts again. A 7-day streak earns the On Fire tag and a 30-day streak the Galaxy ball.

How do I play against friends?

Share your invite link or six-character code from the Friends menu. Tap a friend to challenge them on a fresh course: if they are online you play together live, otherwise the challenge waits for them. Your record against each friend is kept.

What are quests and tags?

Quests reward you with special balls, ball trails and tags to wear next to your name. Some belong to events, others are hard challenges such as five eagles or a 30-day streak. They are free for everyone; you just need to be signed in to claim them.

What does a replay do?

A replay is another go at today's nine. If you score better, the better card replaces your first one on the leaderboard; if you score worse, nothing changes. Bought replays never expire.

What is the Club membership?

An optional membership with two replays of the daily nine every day, unlimited practice on every past and random course, the five-shot target range, and every ball, tracer, ace celebration and music track. You can cancel it any time from the game.

Is there an app?

Yes, Daily Holes is on the iPhone App Store as well as in any browser. Your account, streak and rewards are the same on both.

Who makes Daily Holes?

It is an independent game made in Finland. You can read more on the about page or get in touch through the contact page.
